Realism to Abstraction
Elements of 2D Design
2024
This project followed an original image as seen above making its way from realism to abstraction. As the photo became more abstract, we were assigned to use actual materials to show the image becoming abstract. The medium of the projects consisted of paper, colored pencils, felt, naturalistic materials, and bits of magazines. We were allowed to choose what materials we wanted to express our image becoming more abstract. The difficult part of this project was pacing how abstract you image could get before being completely abstract. Also yes, the photos are in order from realism to most abstracted. My strategy of this project was to take a medium that would best express abstraction the most as it would slowly become more abstract so as you can see, I saved the more abstract mediums for the end. This series of images really tested my creativity and pacing when working in design because I really had to find ways to display this image with a creative aspect to make it become more abstract while also making the image appear abstract without becoming to abstracted too quickly. Overall, pacing yourself when creating abstraction in multiple pieces it is not an easy task but when done correctly looks stunning to see how abstract an image can really get.
